Villain, Let Me Touch You! - Chapter 72
“Who are you to tell me to open the door? This is a secure area. Not just anyone can come in here.”
The coroner was a man who took pride in his work, so he took the security of his workplace seriously.
Nick usually appreciated his enthusiasm and work ethic. But now wasn’t the time for that.
He ran after Helios at full speed, waving his hands in the air.
“Hey, stop! Hey, just open it! Hey!
The coroner glared at Nick, but didn’t understand the warning.
All the coroner could see was a hand shaking furiously, and he took that as a sign to not let this person in.
“I’ll never let you in.”
“Never?”
Helios was stunned. He had never imagined that a mere coroner would stand in his way.
“Open the door, or I’ll cut off your useless hand.”
Helios momentarily unleashed a surge of energy. The coroner’s legs gave way. But he didn’t let go of the doorknob.
“Losing one hand won’t kill me.”
Helios understood the coroner’s point, and he snatched up the Phoenix. Along its smooth black blade, a red aura flared like flames, then vanished—a unique feature of the Phoenix.
“Gasp! That sword… is it the Phoenix?”
The coroner recognized the Phoenix from the book, 100 Treasures of the Empire. If that’s the Phoenix, then the person wielding it is…
“He-He-Helios, the prince! Your Highness!”
The coroner realized Helios’s identity in hindsight, as he coldly removed his hand from the doorknob and dropped to his knees.
“Please, kill me.”
Helios looked down at him.
Part of him wanted to kill him on the spot, but he needed to check on Rienna first. His instincts screamed for him to rush to her.
Putting the Phoenix back into its sheath, Helios kicked the examiner aside.
“I’ll open it for you.” Vincenzo opened the door.
“Rienna!” Helios shouted, but all that came back was a groan.
“Ugh.”
Helios rushed straight towards the source of the noise. Beyond the examination table, he saw Rienna sitting on the floor, holding a scalpel.
Helios’s heart sank instantly.
Even if the direction of the scalpel she was holding was wrong, it was definitely wrong.
“Your Highness?”
Rienna turned her head while tightly gripping the scalpel. Her pupils were dilated, her face pale, and cold sweat and tears streamed down her face.
Helios bit the inside of his mouth hard.
“Rienna, it’s me. It’s Helios. Can you put down the scalpel?”
“Oh, the scalpel?” Rienna mumbled. It seemed like she didn’t even realize that she was holding it.
Helios understood her pain without her having to say it. It hurt, enough to make her unconsciously reach for the scalpel. He’d been in pain before. He had felt the same pain as Renna, and he had wanted to die.
Rather than feeling angry at Rienna’s actions, he felt his heart tearing in two.
“Rienna, put down the scalpel.”
He spoke calmly once more and leaned down. He said it very gently, so as not to startle her and make a mistake.
As instinctively as Rienna had grasped the scalpel, she instinctively followed Helios’s words. She dropped the scalpel to the ground as if she were under a spell. Helios sighed deeply and gradually closed the distance between them.
“Where does it hurt?”
“My head, oh, it hurts so much.”
As Rienna put down the scalpel, tears flowed again. But this time, they were tears of blood, staining Helios’s chest.
It’s Rienna who’s hurting, and she can’t figure out why it’s so hard even for her.
“I’ll try to make it better, Rienna.”
“It hurts so much….”
“I know. Let me hold your hand for now.”
Helios took Rienna’s hand where she held the scalpel.
“How about now? Does it feel a bit better?”
“No. Ugh, it hurts too much, Your Highness.”
Rienna shook her head, thumping it against him. Helios urgently grabbed her other hand.
Even holding hands didn’t alleviate her pain? In the past, holding her hand would certainly have done it. But now it doesn’t, which means the pain is stronger or more resistant.
Holding her hand wasn’t enough to save Rienna.
It was time to try something else.
