Villain, Let Me Touch You! - Chapter 75
“Are you awake?”
I was greeted with a concerned question as soon as I opened my eyes. I sat up, stretched, and looked around.
The familiar bed, the walls, and Jamie. This was my room in the palace.
I had a vague idea of what was going on. Oh my god, I must have passed out while kissing him. My face was burning.
But were my lips okay? They felt strangely heavy.
“Jamie, can you hand me a mirror?”
“A mirror right after waking up?”
Jamie shot me a suspicious look but brought a mirror. I eagerly brought my face close to it.
And then, I dropped it.
My lips…they were swollen.
I had a number of ideas on how this happened. How can someone’s lips look like a steamed bun? I looked like I’ve had three injections of lip filler. How can a sick person’s lips be so smooth without a single wrinkle?
“Oh my, Doctor, are you also surprised by your lips? I was really shocked too. They said you got stung by a wasp on the way here.”
Jamie looked at me as I dabbed at my lips, then let out a giggle.
“In this weather, in the palace, and with His Highness accompanying you, getting stung by a wasp? Isn’t it truly unbelievable? I totally believe it.”
As Jamie calmly recited her words without much emotion, I wished I could hide in a mouse hole. Even without checking, I knew.
Rumors must have spread like wildfire in the palace. Helios and I had a been passionately…kissing.
It wasn’t a lie, but our story didn’t quite fit their imagination.
I can’t chase everyone down to explain to them what really happened.
“Getting stung by a wasp on the lips is supposed to feel really good. Your whole body tingles, your heart goes thump-thump, it feels like being pricked…”
“That’s getting struck by lightning, Jamie.”
Jamie gave me a sharp look. “You’re not hiding anything from me, right?”
I awkwardly smiled.
“I think I know what you’re getting at, Doctor.”
Gone was the sweet Jamie who had been so concerned about me, replaced by a full-blown coldness. Despite that, she didn’t forget to check on my condition.
“No fever, pulse is normal, breathing is good.”
Jamie took out the thermometer she had stuck under my armpit. I pulled up the fallen nightgown.
“Where’s Your Highness?”
“I wondered why you didn’t ask. He’s in his study. Do you want me to take you there?”
“No, if you’re busy, we can do it later.”
“What’s this ‘later’ you’re talking about?” asked a voice from the doorway. “You should see him right away.”
Helios stood with his hand on the doorknob.
“When did you get here?”
He closed the door behind him and came to stand near the bed.
“Just now. How is she?”
He looked at Jamie instead of me. It seemed like he trusted Jamie more than me now. Jamie briefly explained my condition. Helios listened carefully, as if not wanting to miss a single word.
“Thank you, Jamie. You can leave now.”
“Why are you kicking Jamie out?”
I didn’t want her to leave. Because as soon as I saw Helios, I remembered the kiss. The pose I was afraid of being seen in, his skillfulness as he swept me off my feet, and me losing my mind.
“Jamie, don’t go. Stay here. You’re just going to come back anyway. Why bother going back and forth, making your legs hurt?”
I clutched the hem of her skirt as she turned away.
“What should I do, Your Highness?”
Jamie looked at Helios, who was staring at me intently.
“I don’t care if Jamie is there, because I’m going to explain how you got stung by a wasp.”
“A wasp?”
“Yes, a wasp.”
Helios pointed to himself. I quickly got up, kneeling on the bed, and grabbed Helios’s hand.
“A wasp, yes. We encountered a wasp. That’s right.”
“Shall we continue the story?”
Helios grinned broadly, and his handsome face looked irritatingly smug.
“Jamie, go outside and get some rest.”
Jamie seemed to have expected that and pursed her lips, then left the room. Now, it was just Helios and me in the room. Alone!
