Villain, Let Me Touch You! - Chapter 95
This was definitely not the situation I had wanted.
“Does this mean that since Queen Demyr is here with Crown Prince Helios, we can now assume that Queen Demyr is supporting him?”
“When did the two of them become allies?”
“See that person with pink hair? She’s the prospective Crown Princess, and it’s said that she’s melted the Queen’s heart.”
“So, is she the one holding both the Crown Prince and Queen together?”
“Yeah. She’s the real power behind the scenes.”
I wanted to let the murmurs of the people pass through one ear and out the other, but it wasn’t easy.
The misunderstandings around me were growing.
“Is this the so-called Kingmaker?”
Not quite, more like the personal physician with a terminal diagnosis.
I wanted to correct their misunderstanding, but the opportunity never seemed to arise.
Why were they just staring without approaching? Did I have some sort of invisible barrier around me that I didn’t know about? Or was it my face? Are they afraid to say hi?
That couldn’t be it.
Without thinking, I glanced around, and my reflection in the window was nearly perfect…
It was a bit embarrassing to use the word “perfect” while standing next to Helios, but I wasn’t lacking.
In contrast, there were plenty of people approaching Demyr and Helios.
Helios had already been called away by different groups several times, only to return to me again.
Each time he came back to my side, he would give me an apologetic look.
“I really want to introduce you quickly, but there’s an order to these things. I’m sorry.”
Helios, lazily, cursed at the host of today’s event who hadn’t yet appeared.
“Looks like Priscilla really wants to make a big show of being the star.”
Since Priscilla was the one who organized the banquet, it was only after she received her congratulations that we could announce our engagement.
Although it wasn’t legally required, it was the proper etiquette. After solidifying my position, Helios and Demyr had decided it would be better to meet with the nobles.
Of course, my consent was also part of that decision.
That way, I wouldn’t have to explain in detail how I went from being a personal physician to the Crown Princess, and I wouldn’t be harshly criticized for ignoring rude questions.
But introductions weren’t really necessary.
People had already mostly guessed my identity and let their imaginations run wild.
Thanks to that, I somehow became known as the “Kingmaker.”
I wish I had some real power, like they say. Then I could crown our Crown Prince for him.
Except for his occasional impulsiveness, Helios had the qualities of a wise ruler.
Honestly, he was a hundred times better than Macaulay, who had nothing but airs and no real abilities.
Macaulay and Emperor — there couldn’t have been a worse combination.
Wait, but did Macaulay become Emperor?
I don’t think so. I hadn’t read to the end, but there was no hint anywhere that Macaulay would become Emperor.
In fact, didn’t he keep getting outdone by Helios?
If that’s the case, then who took the throne at the end of the story?
Suddenly, I began to wonder if the novel I had read was a romance fantasy or a mystery.
Maybe it’s a crime thriller.
I took a sip of my lemonade and thought about the men who had died due to a certain incident involving Chloe.
Every man connected to Chloe seems to have some problem.
Now that I think about it, Helios and Benz also went through a lot of pain.
“Ah, you were here! I’ve found you.”
As they say, “Speak of the devil,” and sure enough, Benz appeared. Though he admittedly was more innocent cherub than a devil.
He seemed to have come in a hurry, his chest rising and falling quickly.
I handed him the lemonade and lightly brushed against his hand.
No injuries or illness.
I had heard recently that he had bitten his tongue during a seizure.
I felt so guilty at the time, and since then, I’ve been trying to pay more attention to him.
Thanks to that, his condition had improved dramatically, and he was able to attend the banquet.
I was quite proud of that.
“I didn’t expect you to come. If I had known, I would have come with you.”
“Actually, I almost didn’t come…”
Benz scratched the back of his head, a shy smile appearing on his face.
“But since you said you were coming…”
“Was there someone you wanted to meet? If you had told me, I could have invited you to the palace. If I mentioned it to the prince, he might not have been thrilled, but he would’ve invited you.”
I couldn’t bring myself to lie and say that Helios would have been happy to grant Benz’s request.
“No, it’s not that. The person I wanted to meet is…”
Before I could finish, the person who seemed to be exactly what I had in mind appeared at just the right moment.
“Lord Benz! How have you been? I heard you’ve been unwell.”
A bright and cheerful voice — Benz’s eyes widened. I followed his gaze and turned around.
At the end of his line of sight stood a graceful woman, like a daffodil in bloom.
It was Chloe.
