When Your Secret Crush Wizard Took a Love Potion - Chapter 109
As soon as morning came, I sought out someone with whom I could share these deep concerns.
Edgar had created a teleportation circle in the garden in front of the cabin, which directly connected to Orzen’s dragon lair, as a farewell gesture since I hadn’t been able to properly say goodbye to her.
Thanks to this, I found myself frequently traveling to Orzen’s dragon lair at the end of the continent rather than just staying at the village halfway up the mountain.
“What do you think, Lady Orzen?”
The ancient dragon, who had been asleep with a snotty nose, wiped the drool from her mouth and looked at me.
“That’s fine.”
Seeing her respond with something unrelated again, I began to suspect that I might have come to the wrong person for advice.
“You didn’t hear anything I said, did you?”
“No, I heard that you two cleared up your misunderstanding and became lovers. I dozed off slightly afterward, so I didn’t hear what happened next.”
“I’ll start from the beginning.”
I wasn’t even angry anymore. I carefully retraced the events and sought her advice. Fortunately, Orzen, who stayed awake this time, gently stroked her smooth chin.
“That’s quite a serious issue. Considering he’s five hundred years old, it wouldn’t be unusual for him to have erectile dysfunction. Should I subtly check it out for you?”
“I’m not particularly hopeful about that.”
I shook my head and waved my hand, causing the blonde noblewoman to pout. Her non-human appearance made even her childish demeanor seem quite impressive.
“You came all this way and yet don’t trust me much.”
“Trusting you and this matter are two different things.”
“You’ve become rather cheeky. It’s also quite cute.”
Orzen, who had been giggling, suddenly asked a random question.
“How long will the teleportation circle last?”
Even though Edgar possessed immense magical power, maintaining a teleportation circle from one end of the continent to the other continuously is difficult. A temporary magic circle inscribed with magical runes on a mana stone has a time limit and will naturally disappear after a certain period.
“Until the day after tomorrow.”
However, since our cabin was overflowing with mana stones and Edgar’s magic was easy for him to cast, I thought there was no problem. But her response made me reconsider.
“When you get back this time, don’t come looking for me anymore.”
The cold, abrupt words left me in a daze. Unbeknownst to me, I had become quite attached to this woman, whom I had only recently met.
While I had appreciated her initial kindness, I might have found in her the comfort and support I was seeking, perhaps even more so than in Edgar, whom I had once considered with romantic interest.
Perhaps my presumptuous feelings had been discovered?
The sudden rejection left me feeling like my fingers were frozen, even as I clasped the hot tea cup.
“Did I upset you in some way?”
“No, not at all.”
“Then why? Did I come across as too presumptuous? If so, I’ll change. I just—”
I wanted to maintain a relationship with this kind dragon. Staring intently at the corner of the table in my confusion, her cool fingers gently lifted my chin.
“I’m sorry. You haven’t done anything wrong.”
Orzhen looked at me with warm, compassionate eyes. No matter what I did or did not do, her kindness seemed endless.
“My life is coming to an end.”
She brushed my flushed cheek with her fingertips, whispering softly.
“I can sense it. I will soon fall into an eternal sleep. When you come back, I will be nothing but ashes. I couldn’t possibly show you such a sight, especially while you’re still so young.”
“I…”
I was at a loss for words. Even though I had heard she was a millennium-old dragon, it had only felt abstract to me. The thought of her life ending was something I had never fully considered.
It was overwhelming to think of losing someone I had just begun to care for.
“I’ve only just started to get to know you, and I’m not ready for this…”
I felt pathetic for expressing such a whimpering response. But Orzen only smiled gently and continued to comfort me.
“All life is a series of farewells and reunions. Both come unexpectedly.”
