When Your Secret Crush Wizard Took a Love Potion - Chapter 111
As I pondered various thoughts, my mind became so tangled that I didn’t even notice the passage of time.
One morning, while we were having breakfast together, Edgar suddenly mentioned the length of my hair.
“Your hair has grown quite a bit.”
Has so much time really passed already? I frowned as I felt the front of my hair brushing down to my eyelids. With the warm spring breeze flowing through the wide-open window, it seemed that time had indeed flown by while I was lost in my thoughts.
“I guess it’s about time to cut it.”
“Alright, I’ll get everything ready.”
Though we spoke naturally, cutting hair was not my thing.
As evidenced by my horrendous cooking skills that once produced disastrous results, I wasn’t particularly skilled with my hands.
I once impulsively chopped off my bangs because they kept poking my eyes, but I cut them so short that they stood up like newly sprouted grass on the top of my head. Edgar, after seeing the result, laughed so hard that his usually composed demeanor seemed like a lie. After that, he never let me handle the scissors again.
“Please have a seat, dear customer.”
After finishing breakfast and stepping outside to the garden, I found Edgar waiting for me with a chair prepared. His bowing and light display of courtesy looked quite convincing. Lately, he had been more prone to jokes. It was unlike his usual strict demeanor, in an effort to lift my spirits.
“Alright then, let’s see your skills.”
Sitting down with a playful air, a white cloth was draped over my upper body to prevent any hair from falling inside my clothes.
“Please close your eyes.”
With a soft whisper, his large hand gently covered my eyes. As my eyelids shut and my vision turned black, I could clearly hear the faint, crisp sounds of the scissors cutting through my hair, trimming it evenly.
“Seems like your hair is growing faster these days.”
Normally, I’m the one who talks, but since Edgar was focused on cutting hair, he started to fill the silence with trivial chatter.
“Maybe it’s because you’re in your growth period.”
“I’m well past twenty. What growth period are you talking about?”
He fell silent at my ridiculous tone. I wondered if my sharp reaction had startled him, so I jokingly brought up an old superstition I had heard.
“They say that if you have lewd thoughts, your hair grows faster.”
It was true that lately, I had been consumed by a late-blooming puberty and immersed in impure thoughts, just like a teenager discovering self-pleasure. I was curious to see how he would respond, but instead of answering, he remained silent and the snipping grew faster.
He was probably blushing up to his ears by now. Imagining that scene without even looking made me chuckle, though I gradually stifled my laughter.
“Seeing as your hair hasn’t grown at all, I guess that old superstition doesn’t hold.”
“Oh, that’s truly a relief.”
There was a trace of amusement in his voice, as if he was reminiscing about the time when I had cut my bangs.
Unlike me, who regularly trims hair and nails, Edgar’s hair always stays the same length. His glossy skin and robust physique remain unchanged, untouched by time, and his body shows no signs of aging.
“But, Edgar, how did you end up with such a body?”
He fell into silence. Perhaps because my view was blocked, the brief quiet seemed stifling. Amid the sound of snipping, his soft voice returned with a question.
“Curious?”
His kind voice made it seem like he would tell me everything if I asked.
Of course, I was curious. It’s only natural to wonder about the life someone you care about has lived. I was eager to learn about the countless encounters and partings he had experienced, and the complex history of his life long before I was born.
“The reason I haven’t shared my past with you is that I have no particular attachment to it.”
His long fingers, which had been holding the back of my neck to keep the angle steady, gently brushed against my earlobe.
“Most of my past memories have long faded into oblivion with the passage of time. The days I spend with you, Chloe, are the only ones that remain vivid in my mind, and I have no room to concern myself with a past that has no impact on the present me.”
