When Your Secret Crush Wizard Took a Love Potion - Chapter 113
As I started to worry about whether I should find a paper bag to help with his hyperventilation, Edgar eventually managed to respond, albeit hesitantly.
“I, I want… too…”
He probably meant that he also wanted to have a child. However, I didn’t want him to suggest having a dozen children like a rabbit with great fertility. Such matters should be discussed and agreed upon thoroughly.
As I looked down at the man who was coming closer to me, now red to the neck, I decided to speak up.
“No more, no less—just one. It seems appropriate to raise one child and live a cozy family life of four. What do you think, Edgar?”
“That sounds like the perfect family plan in the world. It’s been my lifelong dream.”
His agreement was enthusiastic, but his expression suddenly grew serious.
“But, ‘a family of four’?”
“Counting the golem, it’s four.”
Edgar, now looking as if he had just had a revelation, muttered, “I see,” repeating the same words like a fool. With his bright, intelligent eyes and flushed cheeks, he looked like someone who would agree to any proposal, even if it were bizarre.
“Anyway, if we have Edgar’s child…”
“Hmm?”
“How long will that child’s lifespan be?”
Returning from his happy thoughts to reality, Edgar placed his hand on my knee as he understood the meaning behind my question.
“Though not as long as mine, they’ll certainly live longer than a normal human.”
“Will they?”
“We won’t be able to be together for a lifetime. But there won’t be any sudden parting. I promise you, Chloe.”
Looking into his warm eyes, I felt a flush around my own.
“I hope that child lives a long, long time.”
“They will, for sure.”
While Edgar might think my concern was tied to Orzen’s death, my fixation on the child’s lifespan was driven by a deeply personal selfishness.
If I were to leave this world early, having a child would mean a part of me would still remain in it. Even as time wears away affection, Edgar would be reminded of me whenever he saw our child and reflect on it anew.
That alone would be enough for me.
“If we have a child, Edgar, you’ll be okay even if I’m not around.”
Edgar’s hand on my knee stopped, and he looked at me with a blank expression.
“Why are you saying that?”
The smile he had shown earlier was gone and his face seemed almost cold. The delicate eyes that had always conveyed kindness now revealed nothing. A chill ran down my spine from the unsettling sense of unfamiliarity.
“You said you wouldn’t leave my side. Remember?”
“I do. But…”
“Why are you leaving room for other possibilities? We’ve already promised to be together for eternity.”
“True, but…”
I was caught off guard by Edgar’s sudden intensity. We were in the middle of a passionate conversation. Somehow, I felt half-intimidated by his formidable demeanor.
After some hesitation, his voice became sharply edged.
“Does that mean you think we’ll part ways eventually…?”
A dangerous undertone lingered in his voice as he clenched his jaw and lowered his head. I couldn’t guess what was going on in that head of his.
“Edgar, look at me.”
I tried to touch his face, but he turned his head away.
Even if it’s uncomfortable, we need to talk. Frustrated by his evasion, I snapped.
“What are you saying? Do you think I want to die before you? I’m already upset, and you’re making it worse!”
Seeing his head droop, he finally lifted it, and I could tell he was puzzled by my outburst.
“What are you talking about?”
I wanted to bite my tongue. Having to explain my cowardly inner thoughts to anyone, especially Edgar, was unbearable.
“Exactly. What am I talking about?”
“Don’t do this, Chloe. If you don’t tell me everything, I’ll get anxious.”
I tried to avoid eye contact, but Edgar, with his dampened eyes, was looking up at me. I couldn’t escape. With a sense of resignation, I explained the worries that had been troubling me lately.
To my surprise, he seemed even happier than before.
“You were worried about that?”
“Is that funny?”
