When Your Secret Crush Wizard Took a Love Potion - Chapter 114
I just don’t understand. How can he grin like that after hearing about a lover’s serious concern over the difference in lifespans? Was I unaware of something, like a lack of empathy on his part?
“Haha, no. I just…”
Noticing my disapproval, he covered his mouth, but he couldn’t hide the relaxed expression in his eyes. Edgar, with his narrowed gaze, spoke gently.
“Do you remember the vows we made at our wedding, Chloe?”
It was surprising that he brought up a past that neither of us had mentioned before. Although I was momentarily startled, seeing Edgar remember and even reference it made me realize that there was no need to hold back.
“Yes, I remember.”
“That was an ancient ritual.”
The shock of his words left me speechless.
“I shall record your sacred vows in the Book of Death. Should you break this holy oath and deceive the truth, you will pay the appropriate and cruel price.”
At the time of our wedding, I had a fleeting concern. The ceremonial words seemed excessively ominous and the crimson ink on the golden parchment looked anything but ordinary. However, no one provided an explanation, and it was eventually brushed aside.
Now, it was all becoming clear.
“On the day of the oath, I bound my heart to yours in the Book of Death and promised eternity. From that day, my heart has lived in the same time as yours.”
It was good to have the mystery resolved, but I hadn’t anticipated the severity of the matter. I had thought it was just a matter of not parting ways, but the cost of the ritual Edgar mentioned was far more significant.
“If your last breath fades, my heart will stop as well.”
No matter how he pushed, it was clear this wasn’t something to trivialize as mere child’s play. The man before me, mentioning death so calmly, left me feeling overwhelmed and breathless.
My head spun, making it hard to think clearly. Only when his long fingers brushed my eyes did I realize I was crying.
“Don’t cry.”
The warmth of his touch seemed to have cleared my blocked airway, and my breathing came in ragged gasps as tears flowed freely.
“What do we do now…?”
Even though it was due to the potion, I never expected him to go this far. I should have stopped him.
I definitely wanted him not to forget me, which was a selfish thought. But I never intended to take away all the infinite possibilities that he might have left.
“I’m sorry. I knew it was an important ritual, but I just… Why did you have to do this!”
“Why are you apologizing? I’m actually happy.”
Edgar, who had taken my trembling hand, buried his face in his palm. His long, lush golden lashes lowered, and his red lips curved into a soft line beneath his smooth nose.
“I can’t live a life without you.”
Edgar was sincere.
Emotions are illogical and one of the most incomprehensible aspects of humanity. Whether human, dragon, or sage, beings with emotions are often overwhelmed and controlled by feelings whose origins they can’t even fathom.
He devoted his entire life, which could have been infinite and anchored them into a brief love with me.
“It’s just…”
I swallowed hard and opened my mouth.
“It feels a bit heavy and overwhelming.”
My unexpected comment seemed to startle Edgar, causing his lips to tremble slightly.
“It’s overwhelming, yes. I expected that. But, since we’re officially lovers and married, I thought you wouldn’t mind. A contract once made cannot be undone… especially now that it’s recorded in the Book of Death… but if you really don’t want it…”
“I’m just joking.”
Seeing him mumble with his eyes half-closed made me feel a bit sorry for him. The sensation of his smooth cheek, which stuck to my palm like clay, was quite pleasant.
I couldn’t decide whether to laugh, cry, feel happy, or be sorry.
Everyone desires immortality. Edgar’s future may hold countless meetings and special destinies. To throw all that away like a worthless piece of paper due to a momentary decision…
“Well, it can’t be helped. I’ll take responsibility for the rest of my life.”
The sight of him smiling with such happiness at my childish confession made him seem simply lovely.
