When Your Secret Crush Wizard Took a Love Potion - Chapter 19
“This is our largest and cleanest room,” the staff member informed us as we reached our room.
It was indeed spacious, and it was evident that it was well-maintained daily. The fresh flowers in the vase on the dining table seemed to have been changed that day.
“Our front desk is staffed from 8 AM to 4 PM, so please come down if you need anything. You can settle your bill at the end of your stay. If you dine at our restaurant, just mention your room number to receive a 30% discount on your meal. Enjoy your rest.”
After the staff member provided a precise introduction and left, I finally had the chance to look around the room more closely.
There were two plush beds, a wooden dining table with chairs, and a lightweight cabinet. The table, which could seat several people, was set with basic refreshments and decorated with a vase.
I had expected just the basics, but the room was surprisingly better. It might even be cleaner than our cabin.
After washing up and changing into comfortable clothes, I returned to the room.
“Finally.”
I thought, ready to enjoy some rest, but a smooth voice with a sticky undertone approached.
“It’s just the two of us now.”
Edgar had moved closer without me noticing and was leaning towards me.
“What’s new about that? We’ve been alone at the cabin and all the way down the mountain.”
“It’s different, Chloe.”
He was persistent.
“We’re alone on our honeymoon now.”
“Honeymoon…?”
The idea of a honeymoon had seemed like a joke or nonsense, but he appeared to be serious.
Despite the love potion’s effects, he seemed clear-headed enough to consider such things. I had found it strange that he had no questions about our journey itself.
“Traditionally, there’s an expectation for newly married couples on their first night in a bedroom.”
“Take another good look outside, Edgar.”
It was broad daylight. The sun was shining brightly in a clear blue sky.
“It doesn’t matter that it’s day.”
Has those sparkling beautiful purple eyes ever felt so ominous?
“Chloe…”
Had Edgar not been under the influence of the potion, and had he still looked at me with those fervent, amethyst eyes, maybe I would have responded differently. But not now.
“I’m going to head downstairs first, I’m hungry!”
I quickly left the room, avoiding Edgar.
I didn’t lie about my hunger. I had only survived on dry white bread and jerky since leaving the mountain village. I desperately needed a proper meal.
I left him who continued to stare at me blankly and got down.
The young attendant who had shown us to our room promptly handed me a menu. I already knew Edgar’s preferences, so I ordered accordingly.
“I have a question.”
“Yes, of course, how can I assist you?”
Inns were not just for dining and lodging; they were hubs of information exchange for travelers. It was important to ask if there might be another way to solve our problem that I wasn’t aware of.
“I see, that’s quite the situation,” the young attendant empathized after hearing my brief explanation.
“Many tourists face similar issues because pleasure boats have limited docking permissions unlike cargo ships. I’ve seen it often.”
“Is there no other way?”
“Well, the thing is… boats large enough to cross Lake Martin are incredibly expensive and the owners are quite selective. I’m really sorry I can’t be of more help.”
“No, thank you for trying.”
I said, appreciating his efforts and left a tip.
The young attendant gratefully accepted the coin with a beaming smile. I had given him a tip offhand, worried it might not be the appropriate amount, but his joyful expression suggested it was well received.
Before the satisfied attendant walked away, he continued to offer advice, unable to hide his excitement.
“If you’re not in a hurry, I suggest you take a few days to enjoy what Meroni has to offer. Our city is home to a variety of delicious dessert shops and craftsmen as skilled as any you’d find in the capital. Plus, with merchants from around the world, there’s hardly anything you can’t find here.”
The sweeping cityscape I had seen earlier came back to mind. It was indeed an enticing suggestion.
However, the fact that we can’t secure a boat, and thus being potentially stuck waiting indefinitely for spare tickets, weighed heavily on my mind.
Lost in thought, I waited for my food.
“Really? Is it that dangerous there?”
