When Your Secret Crush Wizard Took a Love Potion - Chapter 34
I stared at the solid back that never turned to face me, I barely registered the low voice that echoed near my ear.
“If that happens, we’ll never meet again.”
His response was so indifferent it felt cold. I chewed over his words, looking for a different meaning, but found none. A self-mocking laugh escaped me.
That was always Edgar’s way. He’d offer warmth when I was cold, but that was all. No matter how much I longed for closeness, he was always ready to leave.
“Why? Because you’d be glad to be rid of an annoying apprentice?”
Come on. Why would a talented wizard like me bother with an ordinary man? I’m taking all the master-class spellbooks and top-quality potions from Edgar and leaving.
Unable to contain my irritation, I retorted sarcastically, and this time, he even laughed. That was typical of Edgar Blayden.
But what about him now?
He’s honest, not hiding his feelings, and too easily becomes vulnerable with me. He was always mysterious, never showing his true feelings—completely different from the Edgar I knew before.
‘Anyway.’
I swallowed dryly, thinking. The only reason Edgar is acting this way now is because of the love potion. There’s no chance of a real romantic relationship between the real Edgar and me.
So I tried to resist the situation, to push him away.
“Chloe, please.”
I knew I should.
“Please, I’ll do anything just to stay by your side.”
Edgar, who had split a building-sized rock with a flick of his finger, now rested his cheek on my palm like the most fragile creature. It was hard to believe he was the same person.
I’m unsure. I know all of this is just a midsummer night’s dream, yet seeing Edgar cling, beg, and openly express his emotions, it all feels so genuine…
“I don’t know what to do.”
My voice leaked through my parted lips, like grappling with an unsolvable magical formula for hours. No, the answer is clear, but my emotions are clouding my judgment.
“Why hesitate when we love each other?”
“Who loves whom…?”
I hadn’t even voiced my feelings, yet Edgar didn’t hesitate. As if they were a given. While I was weighed down with worries and doubts, his declaration was infuriatingly carefree. I was about to retort when he interrupted.
“Close your eyes, Chloe.”
His whisper slid into my ears, compelling me to obey reflexively.
“What are you…”
With my eyes closed, my other senses sharpened.
Initially, I thought of what typical lovers might do in such moments, but recalling all the bizarre things Edgar had done lately, I feared what he might try next. My heart thudded.
However, the hand that held mine didn’t lead it where I expected.
“Do you hear it?”
Even without seeing, I could tell my hand was resting on his firm chest.
Thump. Thump. Thump… Through the thin layer of his skin, I could feel his subtle tension and tremors transmitting to me.
His heartbeat, much faster than average, seemed to communicate in an unseen language, as if to prove a point. When I lifted my eyelids, the dimly lit room revealed Edgar’s serious face.
Seeing his finely trembling eyes sent shivers down my spine.
“You’re the only one for me, Chloe.”
Thump. It felt like doors closing all around, blocking any retreat.
Despite my efforts to hide my feelings and treat him harshly, it seemed I couldn’t anymore. I could no longer deny the beautiful man before me or run from my emotions.
Even if this was all just an illusion brought on by a love potion, at least in this moment, Edgar’s feelings were utterly genuine.
The man who took the love potion genuinely loved me.
