When Your Secret Crush Wizard Took a Love Potion - Chapter 42
Seeing the child’s wonderment, I gave a sigh of relief. The ogre leather is also useful somewhere, and I thought a lot about it when I packed it in the cabin, but I was very glad that it was used.
“How about this? Later, when you perform, we’ll capture it with our magical device and show it to you!”
“Great! I’ll give it to my mom and apologize to her.”
The child burst into laughter and hugged me tightly around the waist.
“You have to come, adventurer!”
The child beamed, her face now only showing pure joy instead of tear stains. She handed Edgar and me two tickets for the front row seats, then scampered off to change into her costume and prepare for the performance. Her excitement was like a puppy with its fur puffed up from thrill.
“Isn’t that sweet.”
Edgar chuckled softly, his large hand resting comfortably on my shoulder.
“I’ll go buy some snacks. Let’s sit down early and wait.”
It seemed our plans for the day were set. I sat next to Edgar on the steps, snacks in hand, skimming through a pamphlet briefly explaining the play, which seemed to be an adaptation of a well-known fairy tale.
The story begins with a seemingly ordinary protagonist from a small village who discovers she is of royal fairy lineage and sets out on a journey.
Facing various challenges and thwarted by a dark lord intent on stopping her, the protagonist ultimately reaches the fairy kingdom safely.
As the heat of the midday sun waned, the steps filled with an audience, buzzing with anticipation, mostly travelers and adventurers since the locals were involved in the play.
“The play is about to start!”
A booming voice announced the beginning, and lights bathed the stage.
“What? A simple village girl like me is the descendant of the great fairy king and the heir to the throne?”
I nearly burst out laughing at the child’s initial awkward delivery, but managed to contain it. Thankfully, after an initially awkward start, her performance became more fluid and natural as the play progressed.
“Hey, let’s fight then!”
As the protagonist embarked on her journey to the fairy kingdom, she encountered a surging sea monster and nearly got swept into the underworld.
As if that wasn’t enough, the protagonist faced a relentless series of trials after falling into a trap set by the Demon King’s minions, leading to a standoff with a vicious demon.
Unexpectedly, the demon who had been nothing but malevolent ended up opening its heart to the protagonist, choosing to abandon the Demon King in favor of supporting the protagonist.
“I concede. Your lofty integrity has captivated me.”
Declared the demon, portrayed by a boy wearing red makeup and a white wig, as he knelt before Oz. His performance was somewhat awkward compared to the protagonist’s, but the orchestra’s timely harp music smoothed over the rough edges, helping the play flow seamlessly.
“Come with me.”
The protagonist invited the demon without hesitation. No longer alone, the two successfully reached the fairy kingdom together.
“We have finally arrived.”
Announced the actor playing the Fairy King, draped in a white robe and adorned with flowers, portraying a regal and beautiful figure.
“My child, tell me what you want. The authority to govern the vast land of fairies? Transcendent powers that illuminate all darkness? Or jewels and pearls more beautiful than power itself?”
As the evening sun set softly in the background, the audience was thoroughly engrossed, their breaths held in anticipation. I found myself deeply absorbed in the play.
After enduring numerous hardships, what could the protagonist possibly desire the most? It seemed possible she might ask for everything.
However, the line that came from the child was unexpected.
“Please let me return home safely.”
Having encountered numerous beings and faced various trials, only after reaching the dreamlike fairy kingdom did the protagonist realize what she truly wanted.
The simple, happy days spent at home with her family.
“You have now awakened to become someone who fears nothing.”
The Fairy King proclaimed with a radiant smile, and the play concluded with the protagonist returning to a brightly lit home, having learned the value of everyday life.
It was a good play. As the audience erupted into enthusiastic applause, I joined in, clapping vigorously.
