When Your Secret Crush Wizard Took a Love Potion - Chapter 56
Ah, Edgar still loves me today.
The morning sunlight poured in, making the nightmare from last night seem like a distant memory.
As I lifted my heavy eyelids, I saw Edgar gazing down at me with his chin resting on his hand, a look of sheer delight on his face. His gaze was so affectionate that it made me feel like the most precious treasure in the world.
“Even your sleepy, dazed face is too cute.”
“Is that an insult or a compliment?”
No matter how much I frowned, Edgar couldn’t contain his overflowing emotions. He wrapped his strong limbs around me like a snake, constantly rubbing his lips against my cheek.
I had become somewhat accustomed to this sticky physical affection, which resembled more the behavior of a pet licking its owner’s face than a mere expression of affection.
“Move over a bit.”
I pushed Edgar away and walked to the window, pulling back the curtains. Outside, the residents were already bustling around, returning to their daily routines after the festival had ended.
It was time to end the indulgent days of spending every moment with him. The reality I had been postponing suddenly crashed down on me.
“What time is it?”
Seeing the angle of the sun, I realized that our departure time was drawing near.
“It’s late! Why didn’t you wake me up earlier?”
“Sorry, I got so caught up admiring your sleeping face that I didn’t notice the time.”
I couldn’t help but wonder if he had been shaking me while I slept, but I had to trust that after the past few days of frequent activity, there wouldn’t be any more issues. I washed my face with cold water to wake myself up and quickly got ready.
“Good morning.”
As I descended to the inn’s entrance, the mercenary leader, Marca, clad in light leather armor, greeted me. Unlike the other mercenaries who were rubbing their eyes or yawning, her gaze was sharp and alert, not typical of someone up so early.
When I greeted her back, she looked at me with curiosity, tilting her head as if she had seen something strange.
“It seems like it’s been quite a while. Are you feeling unwell?”
I felt guilty for having spent the past few days holed up in bed, indulging in leisure. The soundproofing magic and isolation must have made it obvious to others. I awkwardly smiled, searching for something to say, but surprisingly, Edgar spoke up first.
“Yeah, doesn’t she look a bit off?”
The mercenary leader, Marca, looked genuinely surprised at the unexpected response from Edgar. Given that he had been trailing behind me without engaging much with others since joining, it was understandable.
“Did you just agree with what I said?”
“Or what? Do you think I’m talking to thin air?”
Edgar wasn’t always this socially awkward; it seemed that since taking the love potion, he had only become better at irritating others when he spoke. Before Marca could furrowed her brows, I hurriedly covered Edgar’s mouth and stepped back.
“Why are you doing this?”
“What’s wrong?”
“Why have you suddenly changed your attitude?”
“It’s nothing. Chloe and I are perfectly matched now, so I decided to stop being petty and jealous.”
So, all the sulking and irritability towards others was purely due to childish jealousy?
“Also—”
Edgar, with his hands on his cheeks, shyly blushed.
“That person might come to our wedding and serve as a witness to our vows.”
I couldn’t understand why his thought process was developing in this way. Was he viewing everyone as potential guests?
“It must be nice for you, Edgar.”
While I was caught between conscience and reality, constantly agonizing over whether to bring him back, the person who took the love potion seemed blissfully oblivious, almost at a level of complete idiocy.
I knew it was impossible for him to be rational, but it was almost enviable.
“Adventurer, are you leaving already?”
Oz clung to my leg, distracting me from asking further. With sleepy eyes, the child, who could have simply stayed in bed, came running up to me with something in hand.
“This is something I cherish, but I want to give it to you as a gift. It’s a pretty hairpin.”
Receiving the rough but heartfelt hairpin from the child was touching. Children have a unique and warm ability to form attachments quickly, even in a short time.
“Goodbye! Thank you so much for helping me reconcile with my mother!”
As we left the village of Bisanto, Oz stood by her mother, waving her arms vigorously as we departed, marking the beginning of our journey to the Mistwood Forest.
