When Your Secret Crush Wizard Took a Love Potion - Chapter 63
Sometimes, we can understand someone’s feelings or emotions just by looking into their eyes without saying a word. The famous anthropologist Parnen Magdalina once said, “The human eye is like a lake that can reveal the heart, and with just a glance, it can express a hundred different words.”
While a hundred might be a stretch, I think I understand what she meant now.
“It feels strangely hot.”
The gaze burning into my back has been almost unbearably intense for a while now. The maid gave me a sidelong glance, as I seemed to be the source of this gaze, and made some pointless remarks. It felt like a subtle hint to do something about it.
“Maybe it’s because we’re in a volcanic area; the average temperature does seem to be a bit high.”
I responded with a feigned indifference, and she awkwardly agreed with a forced smile.
After years of enduring the subtle moods of her master, she had developed quite a sense of patience. The one who finally spoke up, seemingly unable to hold back any longer, was Olio, who had been observing the situation as a third party.
“You might end up getting burned.”
Despite the occasional reprimands, Edgar remained upright and firm. He was sending strong, silent signals that I should be riding beside him instead of with others, with his eyes conveying the urgent message: “You should be by my side, so come quickly and ride with me.”
No matter what, I couldn’t help it. Every time I rode a horse, the constant friction of his e–ction against my backside made it impossible to concentrate on riding.
“Your posture has improved a lot, Chloe. Maybe it’s because of the practice with me.”
I was tempted to slam my fist into the top of his head for his lewd whispers that only I could hear. But I kept telling myself to stay calm. Even though he was driving me crazy with the potion’s influence, I couldn’t resort to violence against a former teacher who once took me in and helped me.
I struggled to relax my clenched fists, trying to control my anger.
“If you were to ride me tonight, it would be perfect.”
As he made such remarks while licking my earlobe with his damp tongue, with others nearby, I almost lost control.
Fortunately, unlike the burly mercenaries whose bodies were honed for survival, Angel Runport, the maid, though tall, looked slender and light, almost as slim as me. With her figure, even if two people were to ride, it shouldn’t put too much strain on the horse.
And with Edgar clinging to me like a lecherous turtle shell, the comfort of riding with a pleasant-smelling woman was quite a relief.
“Um… this is a bit uncomfortable.”
The maid, who had been holding the reins, let out an awkward sigh, perhaps noticing my discomfort as I unconsciously sniffed at the pleasant aroma.
“I’m sorry. It’s just that the scent is so pleasant.”
It seemed like Edgar’s outrageous behavior had lowered my own standards of normal judgment, making me feel a bit awkward about what seemed like a rather rude action.
“Do you have any secrets?”
“Not really any secrets.”
The maid blushed slightly.
“Every morning at five, I wake up and soak my scalp with rose oil to keep my hair soft. Then I take a hot bath for at least thirty minutes to cleanse my body of any impurities. I use three different kinds of cream from my favorite salon all over my body and wait for the oil to dry while doing a double cleanse. And…”
Unlike me, who is too rushed in the mornings to do more than wash my face with cold water and remove boogers, Angel Runport, with her lovely name, seemed to be incredibly thorough in her self-care.
With her flowing skirts and the stamina to endure long horseback rides, she reminded me of a peacock, which spends half its life perfecting its beautiful tail feathers.
“Oh, it’s all gone.”
Just as I started to feel cramps in my backside, we finally got a break. We dismounted our horses, stretched to relieve the fatigue, and either ate snacks or drank water. Angel, who had taken out a canteen from her pocket, looked embarrassed.
Water is essential for travelers but also one of the most inconvenient items to carry. It’s large and heavy, often requiring frequent replenishment.
“We should be arriving at a stream in the forest soon, so hang in there.”
“I’m really thirsty.”
