When Your Secret Crush Wizard Took a Love Potion - Chapter 75
“You truly are stunning, miss. If I were a man, I’d have kidnapped you in that dress!”
“Oh! Your red hair is so dazzling, I’m not sure if someone of my lowly status should be looking at you directly!”
Their exaggerated praise seemed almost mocking. As I followed the attendants out of the partition, I couldn’t help but question their sincerity.
Orzen greeted me with a smile.
“How does the dress fit? Do you like it?”
“It’s a beautiful dress.”
Regardless of whether it suited me, the dress the attendants had put on me was indeed gorgeous. At first glance, it appeared simple, but the sheer lace overlay, layered in a delicate net pattern, suggested it was far from ordinary, even to an amateur like me.
“I knew my taste was still impeccable.”
With a satisfied smile, Orzen opened a jewelry box handed to her by the attendants, laying out each piece next to me for comparison.
“The color of your hair is very pretty. It’s not as fiery red as burning flames, but it’s a vivid and beautiful red. Such colors go well with blue-toned accessories. What would be best… Ah, yes. I remember buying something nice from a traveling merchant in the desert a century or so ago.”
Watching the blonde noblewoman sparkle with joy as she dressed my doll-like figure, I couldn’t hold back my irritation any longer.
“Why do you keep siding with my teacher?”
I finally understood why she seemed to play along with my teacher’s delusions of a wedding despite him being not normal from the love potion.
It was clear now that her earlier pretense of being sleepy was all intentional. There was no way she would have so thoroughly indulged in Edgar’s nonsense otherwise.
“Do you really believe I came here to you to have a wedding?”
Realizing that I was serious, Orzen shifted from her playful demeanor to a more serious one as she chose jewelry from the box.
“I guess not.”
Her long, white fingers gently combed through my hair.
“I’m sorry. Your master is like a wild fish, unpredictable and difficult to control. It’s been quite a challenge managing him, so I needed an excuse for the two of us to be together without ruffling his feathers too much.”
Edgar, without hesitation, was ready to unleash thousands of meteors just because a thief nearly committed an undesirable act against me. From the moment I tried to restrain him, it was clear there were already strange signs.
“I heard everything you told me earlier. But I have a question. Why does the love potion, which should have only lasted a week at most, still have an effect on Edgar?”
I couldn’t answer. While I had speculated that Edgar’s unique physiology or excessively powerful magic might be the cause, I hadn’t thought of a specific reason.
“Is it possible that you made a mistake by accident during the potion’s preparation?”
“No. That can’t be the case.”
Potion-making requires a delicate and precise process; you can’t simply stir sediment or change quantities arbitrarily. I was certain that everything from the amount of ingredients to the order and the timing was perfect that day.
This wasn’t arrogance but confidence based on my extensive experience and the teachings I received from Edgar as his student.
“Sometimes coincidences do occur. But if coincidences happen repeatedly, it’s likely not mere chance but causal factors disguised as coincidences.”
I didn’t understand. The idea seemed elusive and hard to grasp.
I wondered if Orzen was pointing out my greed for trying to trap Edgar using a cowardly trick. Yet, her touch as she combed my hair was gentle and soothing, like a grandmother calming a sulky child.
“Emotions are quite mysterious. I’ve seen how foolish those in love can become, and I’ve experienced it myself. So… I don’t think you need to worry about what Edgar has done.”
As the attendants brought a full-length mirror at her command, Orzen’s kind smile reflected back from the mirror. She placed a tiara on my head.
The tiara was as beautiful as the dazzling white dress. With intricate craftsmanship resembling vibrant laurel leaves, it featured a blue sapphire set in the center, harmoniously complementing the countless diamonds embedded on its surface.
