When Your Secret Crush Wizard Took a Love Potion - Chapter 79
“Ah, it suits you so well.”
I stammered out the words, but my face was so hot that I could tell without anyone pointing it out. Nevertheless, Edgar’s face lit up with joy at my humble compliment, like a girl receiving a bouquet.
“Thank you. I tried to dress up as best I could, so I’m glad you like it!”
His eyes lost focus and went completely soft. With a sweet sigh, he gazed at me with a dazed look, making him seem like he had completely lost his mind.
Although his head was already quite muddled, I couldn’t help but worry slightly that it might be getting worse, so I gave him a gentle nudge with my elbow.
Edgar snapped and suddenly apologized.
“I’m sorry. I tried to praise your beauty with my inadequate words, but I couldn’t find any words to express it. The immortal sun and the golden moon can’t compare to your beauty. You are truly magnificent, Chloe.”
From his gaze, strangely, I felt a sticky, almost slimy sensation on my skin, as if his admiration was physically adhering to me. His gaze was more than just admiring; it was so intense that it felt like he was scrutinizing every detail of my skin. The feeling of his eyes measuring every inch of my curves made me shiver.
“Could you… do something about that look?”
“What do you mean?”
It seemed like Edgar was genuinely unaware of the effect his gaze was having.
“Honestly, Edgar, staring like that is making the bride uncomfortable. Could you tone it down a bit?”
Orzen said this with a hint of irritation, and widened the gap between us then stepped into the role of officiant.
“I, Orzen Pencillenia, stand here today with the name of my family on the line, to witness your sacred vows. You must answer me truthfully, without any deceit.”
I had been hesitating all along. Even though Edgar might be under the influence of the love potion and genuinely loving me right now, I believed that once the antidote was ready, this ridiculous charade would soon end.
“Will you both love each other in times of joy and sorrow, without changing?”
Even if it’s a joke, some things should not be taken lightly.
If I were to swear as if we were a real couple and then be cast aside by Edgar once the effects of the potion wore off, I would be too devastated to endure it.
“Do you also swear to stay together until death separates you?”
I couldn’t muster a reply. It was a moment of hesitation where I couldn’t say a word. Large hands grasped mine and pulled me gently forward.
“Yes.”
When I lifted my head from its bowed position, Edgar’s voice was firm and resolute, as if he had been waiting for me to meet his gaze.
“No matter how many times I confess, you always look at me like that. It’s a look of disbelief.”
Seeing his face, it felt like someone had hit me on the back of the head.
Why was that? Even though I thought Edgar’s feelings were genuine while under the influence of the love potion, I hadn’t considered at all that he might have been hurt by my repeated rejections.
“It’s probably something that makes you uneasy, though I don’t know why.”
As he looked down, his long, elegant eyelashes cast a deep shadow. My mind went blank. Facing the forlorn expression of the man like a rain-soaked puppy’s, I forgot all about the unpleasant events Edgar was currently embroiled in.
Just as I was about to choose the most cautious response, a gentle touch brushed against my forehead. Lips that made a soft sound as they parted from my forehead came down along the bridge of my nose and touched my lips again before moving away.
The sensation, as light as feathers, was transmitted through my skin.
“It’s alright.”
Edgar, with a smile on his lips, looked at me with eyes that had already grown familiar in such a short time. His gaze was unwavering, like a solid gem that would never shatter.
“I’ll confess to you dozens, hundreds of times, until you believe me.”
I will probably never forget this moment until the end of my life. The soft whispers of love that brushed against my ear.
A strange sense of certainty surged within me. Whether it was the potion or not didn’t matter.
For now, we were truly lovers who loved each other. Overwhelmed with emotion, I rushed to his chest, and his strong arms lifted me effortlessly.
