When Your Secret Crush Wizard Took a Love Potion - Chapter 86
“Chloe…? Why are you up already?”
“Why do you ask? What do you expect me to do, just lie in bed all day?”
“I thought we’d be together.”
Edgar, blinking his sleepy eyes and feeling around the spot where I had been lying, looked quite pouty.
“You left me all alone. If I had known you were going to do this, I would have just kept going a few more times, even if it was hard.”
He looked quite dissatisfied, but I was relieved. If he had done “a few more times,” as he suggested, I might have ended up unable to walk at all.
“We can’t stay lost in sweet love forever.”
In this enclosed bedroom, where you couldn’t distinguish between morning and night without drawing the curtains, the magical space created for just the two of us was comfortable.
However, I knew better than anyone that we couldn’t stay here indefinitely.
“If you want, Chloe, we can do it as much as you want. I’ll take care of it. Okay?”
As Edgar propped his chin on his palm and looked up at me, the white sheets slid down his firm shoulder, barely covering his naked body. His tousled blond hair and languid eyes, filled with a lascivious smile, made him look irresistibly enticing. The one who had drained me to the core over the past few days now looked provocatively seductive.
Suddenly, his eyes, which had been gazing at me, softened as if mesmerized by a beautiful piece of art.
“Today, you’re even more adorable than yesterday. Chloe, what am I supposed to do if you keep getting lovelier every day?”
Here we go again. If I were to cater to Edgar’s incessant compliments, there would be no end to it.
“Enough. Take this.”
I turned away and handed him the medicine bottle that had been on the side table next to the bed. It was something I had been keeping an eye on since I got out of bed.
I thought he’d at least ask a simple question about what it was, but Edgar, without hesitation, reached for the medicine.
“Wait a minute. Do you even know what that is before you take it?”
He seemed quite unbothered by my surprise and calmly responded that he didn’t know.
“You told me to take it.”
His stubborn, foolish attitude left me momentarily speechless.
“It’s medicine. Right now, Edgar is… sick.”
“Me?”
“If you take it, you’ll return to your normal self.”
Although Edgar seemed to not fully understand, he didn’t argue with me.
As I watched him holding the medicine bottle, a strange warmth welled up in my eyes. Despite having prepared myself for all this, I couldn’t help but feel this overwhelming sense of loneliness and sadness.
“I can only hope that after taking the antidote, he still loves you.”
It was the gamble of a lifetime for me.
I didn’t know what the outcome would be, but just as Orzen had advised, I decided to take the risk. It was because Edgar’s feelings for me seemed so genuine at the moment.
Even if he returned to his original self and didn’t love me, I wanted to try. After all, we were already married, so it wouldn’t hurt to be a bit more brazen and insist that he take responsibility for me.
Perhaps, if I pushed enough, he might eventually come around. Even though he had been indifferent, I recalled the kind and caring side of my teacher, which made it seem not entirely impossible.
…Maybe.
Even as I tried to comfort myself with vague hopes, the anxiety was inescapable.
“Promise me that after you wake up after taking it, you’ll still think of me like you do now.”
I unconsciously covered my mouth after my impulsive statement.
“I will always love only you.”
Edgar responded with a bright smile.
That was enough.
I instructed Edgar to take the medicine, and he swallowed the contents of the bottle in one gulp, his Adam’s apple bobbing.
“Once you’ve finished, open your eyes.”
My heart pounded so hard it felt like it might burst through my ribs. The moment of waiting for Edgar to slowly open his eyes and face me seemed to stretch into an eternity.
Finally, he opened his eyes and looked at me.
The emotions that flashed across his amethyst-colored eyes were too numerous to describe in a single phrase, but they were distinctly different from the bright, loving gaze he had shown me just moments ago, when he saw his lover while lying in bed.
“Oh my God.”
Edgar’s smooth cheeks which had been blankly staring at me, had turned as pale as a corpse.
