When Your Secret Crush Wizard Took a Love Potion - Chapter 95
I was intoxicated with vague confidence.
‘Cooking isn’t that hard.’
From traveling across the continent and tasting various foods, I had come to believe that the quality of ingredients was the most important aspect of cooking. The skill of the chef might change things, but not drastically.
It was often unfamiliar because I hadn’t tried it, but once I started, it would become second nature.
However, indulging in baseless confidence usually led to poor results.
“Thanks. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a meal you prepared.”
Edgar sat at the table and picked up his spoon then paused for a moment.
“But what is this dish?”
“This is…”
I looked down at the gratin made from finely chopped red onions.
“It’s kind of a red cheese gratin. I tried to make it look as similar as possible.”
Although I didn’t have the exact recipe, I remembered that it was a gratin with red seasoning and cheese on top. I felt I knew enough. Cooking was about intuition.
“It’s a bit burnt.”
When I heard his comment, I scraped off the melted cheese on top and found that the inside was charred black. It looked like charcoal remnants.
This was unexpected. I had used only red ingredients like red onions, carrots, apple peels, peppers, and tomatoes, so I couldn’t understand why it turned black.
“It may not look great, but I’m sure it’ll taste fine.”
The golem had been fidgeting and waving its arms in the air for a while. Even though it couldn’t speak, its intent to communicate was clear.
“I’ll listen to you after the meal.”
Even though I had told it clearly, the golem continued to struggle more intensely. Ignoring it, I carefully observed Edgar as he tasted the gratin I had made. Although cooking was just a part of my plan to achieve my goal, I couldn’t help but be concerned about whether he liked the dish.
“How is it?”
“It’s actually quite good, just as you said.”
I tried to ignore my wandering eyes as he licked his red tongue and wiped the black seasoning off his lips. Now it was my turn to try.
“Chloe, don’t force yourself to eat it.”
Noticing my grimace as I took a bite, Edgar said indifferently. I didn’t hesitate to run to the bathroom to spit out the food and rinse my mouth.
It tasted terrible. I had thought it would only look like charcoal, but it actually had a gritty, ash-like taste.
“What went wrong?”
Was my cooking skill really that bad? I had never considered myself particularly inept, but making such awful food suggested a serious level of incompetence.
“Don’t eat it, Edgar.”
“Well, it’s not that bad.”
Despite the awful taste, Edgar seemed to have no issues with it. He ate all of it and even thanked me.
“In return, I’ll cook for you this time. Chloe, what did you want to eat?”
This offer was like a heavenly staircase to me after throwing away the disastrous meal. I had been so hungry that my stomach was practically stuck to my back, so I eagerly accepted his proposal.
“Cheese gratin.”
I would use any means necessary to achieve my goal. Whether I cooked or Edgar did, as long as we ended up with gratin, the process didn’t matter.
“You really must have wanted that dish.”
Edgar, slightly surprised by my enthusiasm, shrugged and headed to the kitchen. Unlike me, who had thrown in leftover vegetables just by color, he carefully checked the contents of the ingredient box, washed them under running water, and peeled them meticulously.
“You must be hungry. Just wait a bit.”
Noticing my gaze, he spoke in a very gentle tone while focusing on his cooking.
His blonde hair, falling to his neck. When he rolled up his sleeves, the veins in his arms bulged whenever he exerted strength, and his broad back showed through his thin shirt.
If I hadn’t been physically close to Edgar, I might not have noticed these details. However, I remembered exactly how he had held me before, and it was causing me some trouble now.
