Killing the Possessor - Chapter 3
Before I could finish my thoughts, figures in black uniforms suddenly appeared from the alley.
The sound of their low boots echoed as they marched in formation, each with a metal badge on their chest indicating their affiliation with the Public Security—an emblem that gleamed like an honorary medal.
At the forefront, a silver-haired man stepped forward, wearing a sinister smile as he approached me.
He appeared at just the right moment. Despite his sturdy physique, his facial features were delicate, so sharp and clear that from a distance, his face stood out, and even up close, it was more awe-inspiring than intimidating.
A creation that could only be formed by a god’s careful hand. Yet, to possessors, he was no different from a demon.
A henchman for the execution of possessors. The rumors said that without him, interrogations were impossible—he was also known in the shadows as a skilled torturer.
“…Sir Ren.”
“Ah, we meet again, Miss Camilli.”
Ren Abyss. A being more terrifying than any demon.
The horrific man who had trapped many in their nightmares kissed the back of my hand. His silver hair brushed lightly against my wrist.
“I apologize for having you meet a possessor. You must have been frightened.”
The middle-aged man who had been begging me for help was now bound, his mouth gagged and tied up by his subordinates. Ren glanced briefly at him and then, with no hint of remorse, offered an apology.
“I’ll make up for this mistake of letting him slip away.”
“I’m fine.”
Make up for it? The thought of having any further interaction with him made me wish for a future free of such encounters.
Because…

I, too, was a possessor.
In some ways, I was in an even worse situation than other possessors.
One chapter left. Staring at the glowing message in the air, I managed a faint, awkward smile. That message, which only I could see, conveyed one clear message:
My life was hanging by a thread.
“Sir, I’m a bit late.”
As I tried to free my hand from his grip, he tightened his hold, rendering my attempt futile.
My doubtful gaze shifted to his face, then returned to his hand still holding mine. Without a word, the man began to move his fingers subtly.
His cold fingers, chilled by the night air, slowly slid up to my wrist. For some reason, he placed his index and middle fingers gently on the soft inner skin of my wrist, as though… checking my pulse.
“…”
Once I realized his intention, a cold shiver ran down my spine, and my face trembled involuntarily. I tried to compose myself, blinking a few times, and attempted to calm my racing heart by breathing slowly.
It seemed like he noticed my effort, as his lips curled into a faint smirk with a light chuckle.
His mesmerizing, blue eyes, was half-covered by his silver lashes as it turned toward me like a dream demon.
“Miss Camilli, it seems that you get nervous whenever you’re standing in front of me.”
“…”
“It’s as if something is bothering you.”
He had hit the mark, but I couldn’t let it show. I forced a smile, trying to make it as natural as possible, and looked up at him. Then, avoiding his persistent gaze, I tilted my head slightly and pretended to be a shy lady, speaking in a tone that showed modest embarrassment.
“How could I not be nervous with such a handsome gentleman so close?”
I can say with certainty that if I didn’t know who he truly was, that statement wouldn’t have been entirely a lie. After all, when I first met him, I was so stunned by his extraordinary looks that I couldn’t hide my shock, much to my embarrassment.
“Well then, I’ll just—”
“There’s the ball, isn’t there?”
He whispered softly, not letting go of my hand as I tried to pull it away.
“There will be plenty of men there.”
“Yes… I suppose so?”
As I furrowed my brow, wondering why he would ask such a strange question, he suddenly pulled my hand and tilted his head.
The body heat from his proximity hit me instantly. Despite his graceful appearance, his large physique made me feel overwhelmed from the very start.
The distance between us was so small, I wondered if he could feel my heart beating rapidly. The pressure in my chest was so suffocating that I couldn’t even dare blink.
Without realizing it, I held my breath, standing frozen. At that moment, his deep voice vibrated in my ear, close enough that I could feel his breath.
“I hope you return early, Miss Camilli.”
“…”
“We’ll see each other again.”
With those words, he gave a smile that held no joy and adjusted his cap. His white coat, adorned with a golden fringe, fluttered as he turned, commanding his subordinates to follow.
I watched him, now distantly leading his men away, as the sound of a muffled, desperate scream from the possessed man echoed faintly in the distance.

The message glowed in the air again.
Damn it.
I came to my senses and muttered a curse under my breath before pulling out my pocket watch to check the time.
“…30 minutes.”
One chapter can either feel like an eternity or just a fleeting moment, depending on the content. And there were only about 30 minutes left before this chapter would end.
If I didn’t manage to extend my stay within the next 30 minutes…
“Surviving here is such a pain.”
In a world where possessors are hunted, Harent.
Today too, I was struggling to stay alive.
